The FEC European Golf Croquet Championship 2007
Budleigh Salterton, England: 13th June to 16th June 2007
Tournament
Main Event Dates & Times
Entries will be limited to 32 and the format of the Championship will consist of a preliminary stage of 4 blocks of 8 to produce a Championship knock-out of 16.
Those who do not qualify for the Championship knock-out will be able to enter a knock-out Plate. All losers will be able (but not obliged) to continue playing so that a full ladder of 32 positions will be produced.
All matches will be best-of-three 13 point games.
10 lawns will be used and some double-banking will be used in the preliminary stage.
The dates have been chosen to allow travellers to the UK to return home on Sunday. It is expected that the Club will be open to competitors for practice on Monday and Tuesday.
Guaranteed places
Every FEC member is guaranteed one place as of right. The FEC has decided to offer additional guaranteed places to England (5 extra places) to reflect its strength in depth and the fact that it is the host country and to Ireland and Italy to reflect their strength in depth (1 extra place each).
Other places
The total of guaranteed places taken up is unlikely to exceed 20 which leaves places for additional entries before the 32 limit is reached.
Entries from players who will not or may not receive a guaranteed place are strongly encouraged.
The preliminary closing date for such entries will also be 1 May 2007. However, earlier entries are strongly recommended. Budleigh is a popular holiday destination and convenient accommodation may be hard to find if you leave it too late. If you want to be sure of getting convenient accommodation, you are advised to enter and book your accommodation and flights by 1 April 2007.
Players do not need to send an official entry form but should send an e-mail confirming their entry to Kevin Garrad at kevin.garrad*clericalmedical.com with a copy to me at mulliner*ruralinternet.co.uk It would be helpful if you can include details of where you will be staying, when you will arrive and whether you will need help with transport when you arrive and during the tournament.
If there are more than 32 entries, a qualifying tournament will be held at the venue on Tuesday, 12 June and those who do not qualify will be able to play in the Plate event.
All countries are asked to indicate if they intend to take up their guaranteed place or places by 1st April 2007. If they do not respond by that date it will be assumed that they do not wish to take up their place.
Final closing date is 1st May 2007
If the total entries are less than or equal to 32 on 1 May 2007, all such entries will be accepted for the Championship. If the entries are less than 32, further entries will be accepted up to 32 until 1 June 2007 on a first-come-first-served basis.
If the total entries exceed 32 on 1 May 2007, the list will be closed and the 30 strongest entries will be accepted for the Championship.
The remaining entries will then be asked to confirm if they wish to take part in a qualifying competition on 12 June 2007 for the remaining 2 places. If there are any cancellations from the 30 entries accepted on 1 May, they will be filled from the other entries according to playing strength as decided by the FEC. All those who take part in the qualifying tournament but do not qualify for the Championship will be able to play in the Plate event.
Championship Dinner
A Championship Dinner will be held in the Clubhouse on the evening of Saturday, 16 June.
Entries
The FEC is pleased to announce that the following 32 players from 12 countries will compete for the European Golf Croquet Championship at Budleigh Salterton from Wednesday 13 June to Saturday 16 June.

Local Transport
Transport from London to Exeter, which is less than 12 miles (20 km) from Budleigh, is easy by air, rail or coach. Or you can hire your own car and drive - about 3 hours by the M4 and M5 motorways, longer if you wish to take a more scenic route and enjoy the countryside of Southern England at its most attractive.
It is intended that competitors will be collected from Exeter Airport, Exeter Railway Station or Exeter Coach Station if they give advance notice to the Club. Contact details will be provided nearer the time.
