John and his wife Deidre began playing croquet in 1999 when on holiday with his father-in-law he was constantly told about croquet until he eventually wanted to know more. He is sorry he did not take it up 10 years earlier.

He won his first divisional trophy three months later and the climbed the ladder of success until in 2003 he was in the first division itself.

In 2008 he will Captain the Queensland Eire Cup team for the third time following their sucess in 2006.

He was runner-up in the 2004 Australian Open Doubles Championship

In 2007 he was placed fourth in the Australian Presidents Cup.
