WCF World Team Rankings

Introduction

The World Team Rankings for Association and Golf Croquet are derived from the World Individual rankings.They purport to show the overall level of success of players from a WCF member association together with a measure of the development status of that member.

Purpose

The compilation of the World Team Rankings does not in itself convey any special privileges but is designed to foster a competitive spirit at International level, across all events. In addition, it can be used as a measure of the development in a particular member association by indicating the overall standard and number of players competing on a regular basis.

Methodology

Twice a year, the individual WCF World Rankings for both codes will be analysed.  The top players in ranking order, subject to a maximum of six from each member association* that complies with the criteria below, will have their grade aggregated with the other chosen players from the same association, and averaged.

Where a member association does not have six players that meet the criteria, the top “n” players that do meet the criteria will have their grades aggregated and averaged.

The World Team Rankings will then be calculated by placing, in descending order, the member association with the most players in the calculation, then the highest average grade.

Therefore, a member association with five or less players in the calculation can never be placed higher than an association with six players in the calculation, and so on.

*For the purposes of the WCF Team Rankings the term "member association" shall include all players who have their designated "member association" shown on the AC and GC Rankings at the time of the compilation. Therefore this may include players who are currently not qualified to play for that member association due to WCF Statute 303.

Why Six Players?

The number six is not entirely arbitrary. It is based on the MacRobertson Shield team composition that is recognised by the WCF as The World Team Championship for Association Croquet. Whilst it is acknowledged that other prominent International Series feature fewer that six players per team, it is considered that the aspirations and eventual accomplishment can best be based on the higher number.

Criteria

Each player in the calculation must:-

  • be qualified and eligible to play for the relevant WCF Member Association at International Level;
  • in Association Croquet have played a minimum of 10 (ten) competitive ranked games in the preceding 12 months;
  • in Golf Croquet have played a minimum of 10 (ten) competitive ranked games in the preceding 24 months;
  • for AC have a minimum ranking grade of 1 (one);
  • for GC have a minimum ranking grade of 1400.
