WCF Development Programme award to Germany
The WCF has made its first ever award under the newly implemented WCF Development Programme.

Canadian Open Championships
Croquet Canada have announced details of CroqCan 2006, the Canadian Open Croquet Championships. They will be held at Belvoir, west of London, Ontario, Canada from 12th -16th July 2006.

 

WCF Ranking System Appraisal Committee formed
Work has now started on the examination of the WCF Ranking System currently in operation by a specially appointed committee of experts and enthusiasts in statistical and mathematical modelling.

Women's World Golf Croquet Championship Final Positions
Nahed Hassan (EGY) won the 1st ever world title for women after beating Iman El Faransawi (EGY) 7/5, 7/4, 6/7, 7/6 in a wonderful match lasts for 3 hours.

The Final day of the 1st Women’s World Championship
After 8 days of hard and exciting competition between 50 players playing with each other for the world title, we finally reached the last day of the tournament.

In today’s matches Nahed Hassan and Iman El Faransawi, both form Egypt, will play for the world title at 16:30 (local time).

Abir Moustafa (EG) and Sherin Hamdi (EG) will play for the 3rd & 4th position.

Mervat Shazli (EG) and Hemat Moustafa (EG) will play for the 5th & 6th position.

Christine Pont (AUS) and Jane Shorten (IRE) will play for the 7th & 8th position.

Sanaa S Elyazel (EG) and Carole Jackson (SA) will play for the 9th & 10th position.

Julie Hudson (ENG) and Manal Ali Mohsen (EG) will play for the 11th & 12th position.

Abir Mourad (EG) and Samia Mahmoud (EG) will play for the 13th & 14th position.

Women’s World Championship News
After today’s play in Cairo the quarter finalists are known. Six from Egypt, one from Ireland, and one from Australia. In an exciting match Jane Shorten of Ireland beat Carole Jackson of South Africa 7-6, 7-6. A wrong ball error by Dallas Cooke (NZ) at the beginning of the third game was costly as Sherin Hamdi (Egypt) ran a number of long hoops to win the third game. Christine Pont (Australia) beat Julie Hudson (England) with a long series of very consistent hoop approaches. Two of the favourites Nahed Hassan and Abir Moustafa won in two games.

WCF Women's World Championship Opens
The opening ceremony took place today for the WCF 1st World Women’s Golf Croquet Championship being held in Cairo, Egypt this week.

President of the Egyptian Croquet Federation, Amir Ramsis Naguib, together with WCF President, David Openshaw, shared the honour of opening the first World Croquet event for women in glorious sunshine.

With 50 women players from around the world the success of the Championship is already guaranteed.

Norway finds missing link?
During a visit of The President of the Croquet Association of Norway to Strandpromenaden Krokketklubb, Lillestroem, The Croquet Society found out that the players at the court in Lillestroem played a version of croquet which must be a missing link! A missing link between Association Croquet and 9 wicket croquet.

UNESCO adopts International Convention Against Doping in Sport

The International Convention Against Doping in Sport was adopted unanimously by the UNESCO General Conference meeting in Paris for its 33 d session. This is the first time a legal instrument aimed at eradicating doping is both binding and universal.

The Great Britain selectors have announced their team to represent them in the forthcoming 19th MacRobertson Shield World Team Championship 2006 in Australia.

The 19th MacRobertson Shield World Team Championship will take place at the new Headquarters of the Victoria State Croquet Association at Cairnlea, Melbourne between the 16th November and 3rd December 2006.

The rivalry continues
Its only seven weeks ago that Reg Bamford (South Africa) defeated Robert Fulford (England) to take the WCF World Championship Association Croquet crown. However, revenge can be sweet even if you have to wait that long!

Czech-moravian Croquet Association admitted to membership

The WCF is pleased to announce that the Czech-moravian Croquet Association has been admitted to membership of the WCF with Observer status, subject to eventual ratification by the WCF Membership.

The Czech Association known locally as:- “Asociace Ceskomoravskeho kroketu” has a total of four clubs playing on 10 half size courts. They play the Association and Golf variants of the sport. The first national championship is scheduled to take place in 2006.
